We made a last minute decision to go camping for the July 4th Holiday weekend. Our favorite local campground (Geneva State Park) was full, but luckily there was one available spot left at Willow Lake Campground, which is about 2 miles south of the Geneva on the Lake ‘strip’.
Our full hook up spot (A7) had no shade and was directly across from the office (a police car sat at the office parking all of Saturday night). Probably the least desirable spot in the campground, but we were happy to have found a place to camp on no notice.
We had a great campfire and did a little campfire cooking with our Coleman tripod grill. We grilled steaks, burgers and hot dogs, potatoes and super sweet corn on the cob.
While this years 4th camping trip was shorter (and closer) than some of our other July 4th camping trips (Huntington Beach – Myrtle Beach SC, Liberty Harbor – New York City, Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, etc) it was very nice, relaxing.
We will definitely return to Willow Lake Campground again. While it might not be quite as private / spacious as the campground at Geneva State Park, it is a very nice campground (great to have water (and sewer) at site, the shower house is much nicer and wifi is a bonus).
The State Park being full was a blessing in disguise, we discovered another nice campground, perhaps Willow Lake Campground will become our new favorite Geneva campground.
Willow Lake Campground is situated on 70 wooded acres with two small lakes (a swimming lake and a fishing lake) with several playground areas, basketball court, open grass areas and more.
Overnight campers have 70′ pull through spaces with full hookups, 50 amp electric and wifi for $35 a night. (Weekly, monthly and seasonal rates are also available). The new shower house was large and very clean (water is 25 cents per 3 minutes).
The free wifi Internet speed was 1.87Mb/s download, 0.62 upload (speedtest.net). No idea how the speed / connection is from anywhere else in the campground but it is was certainly useable where we were.
We were able to get zero TV channels with our small antenna.
As always, Maui (our 20 year old F4 Bengal) was very popular while walking him on his leash around the campground. He makes friends everywhere he goes.
He loved his time outside bathing in the sun and exploring somewhere new.
